What are Employment Types and how are they used in Optii?

Employment Types are a way to categorize different kinds of jobs within the Optii platform. They are essential for the scheduling and rostering features.

The main purpose of Employment Types is to help managers avoid over-rostering staff by setting an hours limit. When you schedule an employee, the system uses their Employment Type to check if you are rostering them for more hours than their limit allows, which helps prevent overtime costs and manage employee fatigue.

Here is a quick guide to what each Employment Type means:

  • Full-Time: An employee who works a consistent, full week of hours (e.g., 40 hours). Optii will warn you if you schedule them for more than their set limit.

  • Part-Time: An employee who works fewer hours than a full-time employee (e.g., 20 hours). The system will alert you if their scheduled hours exceed their part-time limit.

  • Contractor: A self-employed individual hired for a specific service. Because their hours are not typically tracked for overtime, the system does not trigger any scheduling warnings for them.

  • Temporary / Seasonal: An employee hired for a short, defined period. They have an hours limit similar to full-time or part-time staff, and the system helps ensure you don't over-schedule them during their contract.

In short, Employment Types provide the rules for the scheduling module. They tell Optii what limits to apply when you are building your team's roster.
