Housekeeping Automation FAQs — Hotel Room Status Codes & Definitions
Room Status Codes & Definitions
Understanding room status codes is essential for seamless communication between the Front Office and Housekeeping. These statuses ensure that guests are only checked into rooms that are safe, clean, and fully inspected.
Vacant Room Statuses
-
Vacant Dirty (VD): The guest has checked out. The room is now empty but requires a full departure clean by Housekeeping before it can be reused.
-
Vacant Clean (VC): The room has been cleaned by a Room Attendant but is awaiting a final inspection. Important: Front Office staff must not check a guest into a room in this status.
-
Vacant Inspected (VI): The room has been cleaned and successfully verified by a Housekeeping Supervisor. The room is now "ready to sell" and available for guest check-in.
Occupied Room Statuses
Occupied statuses help track the progress of daily services and ensure that stayover guests are comfortable.
| Status | Scenario | Description |
| Occupied Inspected (OI) | New Arrival | Triggered immediately after a guest checks in. This signals a new occupant; no further cleaning is required for the day. |
| Occupied Dirty (OD) | Stayover | The guest is staying for another night. The room is currently dirty and requires a daily service clean. |
| Occupied Dirty (OD) | Departure | The guest is scheduled to depart today. A full departure clean will be required after they vacate to prepare for the next arrival. |
| Occupied Clean (OC) | Stayover | A service clean has been completed by the Room Attendant, but the room still requires a Supervisor inspection. |
| Occupied Inspected (OI) | Stayover | The daily service clean is complete and has been verified by a Supervisor (or a designated "Self-Checker" Room Attendant) |
