What's a Back-to-Back Reservation? And how it works in Optii

What's a Back-to-Back Reservation?

A back-to-back (B2B) reservation is when a guest checks out of one reservation and immediately checks back in for a new, consecutive reservation in the same room. This often happens when a guest extends their stay, but a new reservation was created instead of just modifying the original one.

How Does the Optii Application Handle a Back-to-Back Reservation?

When a hotel staff member processes a B2B reservation in the Property Management System (PMS), Optii automatically detects that the same guest is checking in again to the same room. Instead of treating it as a new arrival and a departure, it recognizes the guest is staying over.

How Does This Affect Housekeeping?

Typically, a guest's departure triggers a Departure Clean assignment for housekeeping. However, when a B2B reservation is applied, the system:

  • Cancels the original Departure Clean job.

  • Creates a Stayover clean instead.

  • Keeps the housekeeping assignment with the same room attendant who was originally assigned to that room.

This ensures the room isn't unnecessarily deep-cleaned, allowing the same room attendant to continue servicing the guest's room and providing a smoother experience.

How Can I Track These Changes?

All actions related to the B2B reservation—including the cancellation of the Departure Clean and the creation of the Stayover assignment—are recorded in the activity logs. You can review the logs to see a detailed history of what happened and when.
